
Director of La Modelo prison in Colombia shot dead in Bogotá
On Thursday (16), the director of La Modelo prison, one of the main penitentiary centers in Colombia, was shot dead in Bogotá after receiving death threats, Justice Minister Néstor Osuna reported.
Retired Colonel Elmer Fernández was shot inside a vehicle from the prison authority Inpec.
Fernández took office on April 4. “He was following orders to impose discipline and conducting random searches. Today, he was brutally murdered,” lamented the country’s president, Gustavo Petro, on the social network X.
