Prefeitura do Rio inaugura primeira arena gamer pública do país na Nave do Conhecimento do Engenhão, na Zona Norte.
The Rio de Janeiro City Government inaugurated, this Wednesday (01/17), the first public gamer arena in the country, at the Nave do Conhecimento do Engenhão, in the North Zone of the city. With capacity for 100 people, the space dedicated to electronic sports will host small and medium-sized competitions, as well as regional tournaments, promoting inclusion, learning and social transformation.
The initiative, a result of the partnership between the Municipal Secretariat of Science and Technology and the Coordination of Games and e-Sports of the Secretary of Civil House, is supported by Petrobras. The Gamer Arena seeks to consolidate Rio de Janeiro as the capital of innovation and technology in Latin America.
The mayor Eduardo Paes highlighted the importance of the initiative, stating that the city intends to stand out not only in the Carioca Mathematics Olympiad and the Naves do Conhecimento, but also as a reference in electronic sports. The inauguration event was attended by professional virtual football players, Vitor Abdalla and Alan Leal, who performed a live showmatch.
The Gamer Arena, equipped with a stage for two teams of up to five players, a broadcast studio, dressing rooms, grandstand, raised floor, and LED screen, aims to encourage the formation of new talents in the electronic sports industry, covering players, announcers, commentators, and transmission technicians. The space also offers an area of simulators with virtual reality glasses, providing an immersive experience in digital environments.
Operating hours are Monday to Friday, from 9 am to 9 pm, and Saturdays from 9 am to 4:30 pm. The Gamer Arena at Nave do Conhecimento Engenhão aims to be a reference point for the gamer community, boosting the development of electronic sports in the city.
