Bangu Shopping inaugura estátua em homenagem à primeira ‘Miss Elegante Bangu’ em evento histórico de pioneirismo na moda

Bangu Shopping Celebrates 17 Years with Statue Unveiling

In celebration of the 17th anniversary of the establishment of Bangu Shopping in the old premises of the historic Bangu Factory, a tribute to Corina Baldo, the first winner of the Miss Elegant Bangu contest, will be unveiled on Wednesday (10/30). The statue of Corina, created by the Bangu artist Clécio Regis, stands at 3.70 meters high and will be displayed in the internal courtyard of the shopping mall, next to the factory’s chimney.

The sculpture of Corina Baldo is representative of an effort to honor key figures in Bangu’s history. According to Clécio, the piece symbolizes the significance of Bangu in Brazilian fashion: “Our focus is on Bangu being a pioneer in fashion exports. It is only fitting to have an icon to represent this, like Miss Elegant Bangu,” said the artist in an exclusive interview with Diário do Rio.

Along with Corina’s statue, Bangu Shopping will also kick off the exhibition “Bangu Factory – Pioneering in Fashion History,” in collaboration with the Museu de Bangu. The exhibition, running until November 10th, showcases a collection of historic photos and scenic totems that guide visitors through a chronological narrative of the evolution of fashion and the role the textile factory played in shaping the industry in Brazil.

Clécio Regis, also responsible for the Thomas Donohoe statue, celebrates the neighborhood’s legacy and his own journey as a cultural activist and founder of the Grêmio Literário José Mauro de Vasconcelos, the first neighborhood museum in Brazil. “Bangu had the first neighborhood museum in Brazil, the Grêmio Literário José Mauro de Vasconcelos, which has reached 30 years without governmental support. As a museum founder, researcher, and cultural activist in the region, honoring this was an easy decision,” stated the artist.

The inauguration of Corina’s statue is scheduled for 2 p.m. and promises to be a celebration of Bangu’s culture and pioneering spirit, highlighting the influence of the Bangu Factory not only in fashion but also in the cultural and sporting development of the country.
