Discovering Casa do Lago Bistrô in Vassouras
Vassouras, a city in the interior of Rio de Janeiro, is rich in historical and cultural heritage from the heyday of coffee in the Paraíba Valley during the Brazilian Empire. The coffee trade brought development to the state and the country, leaving a legacy of palaces, historic farms, grand mansions, picturesque alleys, and a unique culture that is still alive and protected by an urban and landscape ensemble listed by IPHAN. It was right there, in the heart of the Coffee Valley, in an environmental preservation area of the Atlantic Forest, that I discovered Casa do Lago Bistrô.
A Fantastic Discovery
Based on the concept of “farm to table,” the bistro’s dishes carry the unique flavor of fresh ingredients from the family farm and local farmers, always prioritizing small producers. The simplicity of a creative kitchen that respects the seasonality of nature and its stories is one of the great attractions of the place.
Casa do Lago Bistrô has a unique beauty. “A cottage disguised as a bistro,” as described by the owner, features a rustic and elegant interior decoration and an outdoor environment surrounded by greenery, with tables strategically placed in front of a beautiful lake. To complete this setting, there is live music, with a carefully selected repertoire that awakens all our senses. The beauty of nature, the quality sound, and the divine flavors of the carefully prepared and presented dishes create an unforgettable experience.
A Complete Sensory Experience

Upon arrival, the landscape is already enchanting. We decided to sit outside to admire nature, listen to pleasant music, and enjoy a wonderful drink to start. We chose La Provence (Gin, lavender infusion, and Sicilian lemon – R$ 42.00), which besides being beautiful in presentation, is delicious and has a different and striking flavor!
For starters, we ordered one of the house classics, Brie with Honey (Breaded brie cheese with truffled honey, accompanied by a basket of fine herb toast – R$ 75.00). Simply divine! The contrast of flavors and the combination with truffled honey bring a unique and special taste that leaves a mark in the memory. Impossible to forget!
For the main course, we chose Shrimp and Risotto (Sauteed VM shrimp in Provence herb oil with creamy brie cheese risotto and leek crispies – R$ 98.00). Very well served, with impeccable presentation and a light yet distinctive flavor. The finishing touch with leek crispies adds a special touch to the dish.
For dessert, we ordered White Chocolate and Pistachio (White chocolate fudge cake, red fruits, whipped cream, fresh strawberries, and pistachio treconi ice cream – R$ 45.00) and Chocolate in Three Textures (Brownie, soft Belgian chocolate brigadeiro, and crunchy chocolate with caramel and sea salt – R$ 39.00). Both desserts are wonderful, but Chocolate in Three Textures won my heart! A perfect brownie, with a crispy outer layer and a soft interior, the brigadeiro at the right point, and the mixture with caramel and sea salt made the perfect dessert, especially for chocolate lovers like me.
Exceptional Service
The service is another important point that deserves highlighting. Everyone is very attentive and concerned with making the experience at the place the best possible. Chef Rachel Porto is always present, friendly, and attentive, checking every detail and making everyone feel welcomed and well served.
