President Donald Trump praised the Secret Service for quickly ‘taking down’ the shooter. The shooter, later identified as 20-year-old Thomas Matthew Crooks, was killed with a shot “right in the middle of the forehead,” according to Trump. “They [agents] did a fantastic job. It’s very surreal for all of us.”
Trump also commented on the moment he wanted to ‘grab his shoes’. A video from the rally broadcast captured the moment when the former president, already wounded, asked the agents holding him to let him pick up his shoes. “The security hit me so hard that my shoes fell off, and my shoes are tight,” he joked.
At the hospital, the doctor said he had never seen anything like it. He called it a miracle. (…) I shouldn’t be here. I should be dead.

How the attack unfolded
Trump was addressing supporters when he was targeted by gunfire. Videos capturing the moment show the shots being fired, and shortly after, Trump puts his hand to his ear and ducks. Then, Secret Service agents rush to protect him on the stage. The rally was taking place in Butler, Pennsylvania.
