Sunday (20) Spain defeated England 1-0 and joined the group of champions of the Women’s World Cup. Only five countries are part of this list.

First played in 1991, when China hosted the competition, the World Cup had the United States as its first champion.

Over the years, the US became the biggest winners, with four titles (1991, 1999, 2015, and 2019).

Germany follows with two conquests, in 2003 and 2007. Norway and Japan are tied, each with one title. Norway won in 1995, and Japan took the trophy in the 2011 edition.

Since Japan’s defeat in the quarterfinals of the edition played in Australia and New Zealand, in which the Asian team was surpassed by Sweden, it was already known that the World Cup would have a new champion.

Sweden and Australia were eventually defeated in the semifinals by Spain and England, respectively, who faced each other in Sunday’s final.
